Soup Kitchens
|
| |
Approximately once a month, a team of volunteers from All Saints’ Church provides a meal for the homeless at Haws Avenue Methodist Church. Youth and adults join to prepare a main dish and dessert which are served on a Sunday afternoon. Monthly, other parish volunteers join an ecumenical team from throughout the community to plan and serve a noontime meal to the homeless at St. John’s Soup Kitchen in central Norristown.

Interfaith
|
| |
An ecumenical group of Norristown churches sponsors a food pantry and clothing distribution center at nearby Central Presbyterian Church. All Saints’ parishioners are encouraged to bring weekly donations of non-perishable foods for the food pantry. Each November, All Saints’ Youth Group coordinates a collection of food and purchases $1,000 worth of groceries which are all donated to the center. All Saints’ also makes donations to the Interfaith Fuel Fund to assist needy families with the purchase of heating oil each winter.

Episcopal Church Helping Others
|
| |
Episcopal Church Helping Others (ECHO) is All Saints' mission-giving committee. Parishioners may pledge a monthly financial donation through their giving envelopes, with distribution decided by the ECHO Committee according to needs. Parishioners may also fill out two $50 grants per year for an organization of their choice. Recommendations and monies have gone to: Contact Greater Philadelphia: An organization which daily calls elderly persons living alone to make sure all is well. The group also provides telephone support for crisis intervention and a suicide hotline; Seaman's Church Institute: A service helping to serve seafarers from around the world in the ports of Philadelphia and New Jersey. The institute provides clothing, calling cards to phone home and basic needs to those who are out to sea for months at a time; The Kelly Anne Dolan Foundation: A foundation helping the needs of families of children who are critically ill and are losing wages while tending to sick children. The foundation also helps with electric, heating bills and more. These are just several of the many organizations ECHO helps each year. Each week, at the back of the church, there is a wicker basket kept to collect non-perishable food items to be donated to Interfaith, the local food pantry.
